ANJS follows the guidelines approved by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in handling appeals and complaints. Complainers must provide strong evidences supporting their complaints. Complaints about the failure of processes, such as long delays in handling papers or complaints regarding publication ethics, should be handled directly by the Editor-in-Chief responsible for the journal and/or the Editor who handled the paper. Such complaints are:
- Authorship complaints
- Plagiarism complaints
- Multiple, duplicate, concurrent publication/Simultaneous submission
- Research results' misappropriation
- Allegations of research errors and fraud
- Research standards violations
- Undisclosed conflicts of interest
Management of potential authorship disputes:
It is well established by the ANJS that all contributing authors must qualify for authorship and must be listed as authors. If a dispute about authorship is raised the editor-in-chief (EiC) has to undertake it and resolve it. The EiC has to communicate with all the contributing authors individually regarding the subject of dispute. The EiC may also contact the affiliating institutions to verify the actual contribution of the authors to the work submitted. A final decision is reached based on these communications. Accordingly, a revision to the authorship list, which has been made at the time of submission, may be accomplished.
The ANJS welcomes genuine appeals, provided that the complainer presents strong evidence. Appeals to editors' decisions are also welcomed.
